Star Trek: The Next Generation 25Th Anniversary Special

As some of you may know Star Trek: TNG is being released on Blu-Ray in HD on the 24th of July and in honor of its 25th anniversary certain theaters held a screening of two of the episodes remastered in HD. Now some of you more hardcore fans will likely say that they are changing things but they have done their best to avoid changing anything. They are re-mastering everything using the original audio, and film. I believe that they are using the original models of the Enterprise used while shooting The Next Generation.

The event itself was just like a normal movie going experience. No special arrangements or anything of that sort We were all there for one purpose. To Geek out! The episodes shown were “Datalore” and “Where No One Has Gone Before”. Seeing these episodes in HD was glorious. Everyone was clapping and cheering during the credits Trekkies were shouting “WOOHOO” and other comments like that at the top of our lungs. It will be amazing to watch all the TNG episodes in order in Hi-Def when I finally get the money to buy season one. I watched all the TOS episodes including the original pilot episode with Captain Pike instead of Kirk, on VHS during my senior year of High School(Yes I still had a VHS player….I am ashamed to admit that until around November of 2011 I still had an old Panasonic with a VHS player and recorder built-in).

The two episodes were accompanied by clips from a documentary called “Stardate Revisited: The Origin of Star Trek – The Next Generation” which will be on the Season One DVD for all to watch and includes interviews with the cast and I believe some behind the scenes looks but I am not sure.

All in all I’d say I’m actually looking forward to the HD release of TNG and that I actually recommend you watch at least one episode because it looks stunning.
